Not that I could ever condone this type of behaviour of course....http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/residents-parking-meters-attacked-Bristol/story-25900236-detail/story.html?More RPZ parking meters attacked with white paint in BristolTHE city council has blasted vandals for a costly attack in the latest paint-bombing of parking meters.
Two parking meters were covered with paint in St Jude’s in an apparent protest against residents’ parking zones (RPZs) being rolled out across the city.
Although no one has been held responsible, the incidents follow a similar attack on parking meters in St Paul’s aimed at the mayor’s flagship scheme to reduce congestion.
Protests have been steady since it was announced RPZs would be rolled out across most of the city.
And an unofficial survey last autumn claimed that 90 per cent of residents were against the idea which would force drivers to pay for a permit to park outside their homes.
After pictures of the latest attack were circulated on social media, a spokesperson for the council said tax-payers would have to foot the bill for the clean-up.
Alyson Ayland said: “It's both disappointing and costly when people resort to vandalism - it inconveniences visitors to the area and the damage has to be put right which, ultimately, is funded by council taxpayers.”
She added that the attack had left the machines out of use and people in the area unable to purchase parking tickets.
But she advised that drivers who want to park near one of these machines to look for an alternative machine to pay at or park somewhere else.
She added: “We do inform the police as this is criminal damage and we prosecute if we find the perpetrators.
“If you see someone vandalising machines or signs we would urge you to contact Parking Services via
www.bristol.gov.uk.”
The latest attacks come in the “central area residents' parking scheme” which was introduced in 2009.
