Southend man's landmark spy car victory

A LANDMARK appeal case has opened the door to a flood of similar attempts to overturn fines dished out by spy cars in south Essex.

Roger Hutchinson won a victory against the spy cars

The Traffic Penalty Tribunal ruled Southend Council had gone against Government guidance by using the controversial cars where wardens, either on foot, bicycle or moped, could have dealt with the cases instead.

The verdict means other drivers given similar fines – in Southend or other council areas – could also successfully argue the CCTV car was not being used correctly, if they are prepared to appeal.

Not quite sure why it made it to the Richmond & Twickenham Times, since they don't have $cars anymore.
