Title: A stunning achievement that is a credit to every $chunter
Post by: The Bald Eagle on 05 February, 2011, 05:55:58 PM
First of all, please read this exchange of emails I had with Mr Goad yesterday. My personal comments follow.

From: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX]
Sent: 04 February 2011 12:23
To: Goad, Kevin
Subject: Traffic signing at junctions

Dear Mr Goad

I am aware that you had a meeting with Mr Graeme Jones last evening and that as a result of discussions you have agreed to review traffic signing in certain locations where moving traffic violations are regularly enforced by your mobile cctv units.

For your information I, as a member of the No To Mob, have had cause to consult the Traffic Signs Manual and it is my conclusion that the signing at various junctions where enforcement regularly takes place, does not comply with the legislation that governs the installation of traffic signs.

Please may I respectfully suggest that you suspend enforcement of moving traffic violations at the following sites pending the conclusion of your review. They are:

1. St Martins Lane WC2 at its junction with St Martins Place.
2. Clifton Road W9 at its junction with Lanark Road
3. Saville Row W1 at its junction with Conduit Street
4. John Adam Street WC2 at its junction with Villiers Street
5. Moor Street at its junction with Charing Cross Road
6. South Eaton Place SW1 at its junction with Ebury street and Semley Place
7. Westbourne Terrace W2 near its junction with Orsett Terrace
8. St Annes Terrace NW8 at its junction with Circus Road

Kindly acknowledge safe receipt of this email by return.

Yours sincerely

Thanks for your email. The review of sites is already underway and we have suspended enforcement at all sites in the interim.

Regards

Kevin

I hope that when this sinks in, all those who have $chunted or supported $chunting in any way will give themselves a huge pat on the back. When we first started $chunting only a few months ago (July 2010) today is a day we could have only dreamed of.

As we have seen only too often in our fight with WCC, to get them to acknowledge ANY mistakes is almost impossible, but our victory at Golden Square proved that it could be done.

So when I wrote that letter yesterday I was fully expecting to be either completely ignored by Mr Goad, or to receive some half arsed reply that really wouldn't have addressed the issues raised.

I was therefore completely stunned when after only a few hours I received Kev's reply (me and him are best buddies apparently and are on first name terms according to his reply) which we can take as an admission that there is something wrong not only with the signs at the junctions I listed, but also with other junctions where they may have enforced which we are not aware of.

Free Parking Warrior said earlier that to get WCC to review policy on ANY issue you have to move heaven and earth.

Well brothers and sisters, thanks to your noble, heroic and righteous efforts we have done just that and by doing so we have shut down a major scam that would have netted Wastemonster millions of pounds in dishonestly earned revenue.

The beast has only been tamed for now though, and the good news for regular $chunters is that it doesn't mean they won't unleash it again once they put their house in order and put up the correct signs.

Well done BE for the emails to Mr Goad, but why so many kisses at the end of your email?  W:T:F:

Are we going to have to issue redundancy notices to schunters now?  ::)))

Perhaps we should let the schunters go free and multiply, otherwise keeping them in captivity being force fed cabby food all day is like raising veal calf's really.

BE thanks for the SD card. Everyone I've shown the photos too has pissed themselves laughing. You did mean to leave all those compromising photos from what looks to be a swingers party on the memory card didn't you?

They are being uploaded to the NoTOMob Flickr account now, should be all up there by the time I get back in tonight.  dr00L

I feel somewhat empty, cheated and I don't know what else? Bit like turning up to a show/football match you've been really looking forward to and it has a great big poster at the entrance screaming "postponed"!

What am I going to do now?  :( ??? ::)

Answers on a postcard please.

Well I am happy we have achieved this And a huge pat on the back to Graeme And BE for all the behind the scenes work.  :aplude: :aplude: :aplude:  However I believe as soon as they have corrected the signs they will be back in business and so will we. ;D
Now how do we go about finding out about the TMO's for every junction which we know they prefered as I suspect more illegal turn restrictions as we found at Golden Goose Sq. I do not believe we got lucky with this one I think its the tip of the iceberg!  :-ev-:
I think we have a similar situation to the person who was responsible for instructing the incorrect signs to be installed. Some body either did not know about the procedure with TMO's or just didn't care as after all who will find out!!  W:T:F:
This info may prove very useful in forcing WCC to repay every fecking penny.  :dancing:
Lets hope other boroughs are watching what's going on here DON'T FUCK WITH THE BIKERS IT WILL COST YOU A SHIT LOAD OF MONEY AND PAIN

Any chance this may put the NoToMoB in the running for the westminster and pimlico heroes prize

Westminster City Council’s awards for people who are making a major difference to the lives of others, and suggested that if you know someone who has made a real difference in Pimlico, you should nominate them for an award so that they could win a £500 grant for their organisation or to help them continue the good work they they do.

I would like to thank “Bruce” for this morning nominating NoToMob an organisation devoted to campaigning against WCC’s Parking Charges on Motor Bikes, and currently campaigning against sneaky hiding of traffic CCTV cameras.  I have a feeling that an organisation agitating against WCC policy may not receive an award, but I applaud their humour and passion in publicising their cause.

NOT so Humourous now methinks

Congratulations to BE, Bruce, Parking Warrior  :aplude: :aplude: :aplude:    and every single NoToMober for this Truly Outstanding Victory... !    :aplude: :aplude: :aplude:

What better recognition could there be than Westminsters admission of failing to manage these issues correctly and having to temporarily

withdraw  this revenue stream until they fix the misleading and non compliant signage ?   The amount of money so wrongly extracted from

the Public in these events is significant enough to  be

worthy of  being publicised to a much larger Audience I believe.  Now, wouldn't it be good to see  some Newspapers like "The Sun"

News of the  World and The Mail run some headlines / stories on what has been happening in Westminster and how Parking Industries

have been formed and daily continue to get away with virtually Grand theft ?   Afterall, Robberies of far less

in value have been publicised by the very same papers.

I wonder how many other Councils may also be guilty of similar practices......unintentionally of course I guess ?  :P

I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE! :o

Kiwi, Killswitch, Jonesy, Boyo, Bomber and Coco were still inconsolable this morning and I hear Monkey Girl has been hitting the gin bottle pretty hard ever since she got back home yesterday. And I will never forget the look on Chalky's face when I told him we'd beaten them (for now) and that there would be no more need to lie to his Mrs about where he sneaks off to at the weekend. The hang dog expression that was on his face even as he left Camley Street is etched forever on my brain.

So I've decided I'm going to write our "Kev" another letter tomorrow and tell him we take it all back and can we please resume normal hostilites. It's got to be better than having to watch you lot go through cold turkey.

Dear $chunters, whilst only being out and about with you on three or four occassions; all of which have been enjoyable, I can honestly say, "Bravo and Well done" to all involved.

As Gibbo stated earlier...

"Don't Fuck With The Bikers"..... so now WCC start to understand.

I hope you don't have too many withdrawal symptoms whilst pending more $chunting.

Trippy.

Me and my better half went up to see Chinese New Year celebrations today, When we walked to Lower James St she said is this China Town?........ yes dear.
Then onto Moore St........Is this China Town as well?..........Yes dear.
Then onto St Jamses St......... Oxendon St........Gerrard St........yes these are all China town dear.
Now I am thinking even she won't be fooled by Savile Row being part of China town or Carlton Gardens so I better not push it. :o
Apart from Golden Goose no other signs have been changed yet.
So I suppose this counts as a $chunt really even though it was on foot and most of the roads were shut to traffic. 8)

How about we get some cards printed up with details on how to fight a PCN starting with the all important Photographic evidence. Then we shadow a CEO with a statement of intent on our person saying we are following the ticket dispensing machine not the person. And if he gives it to another CEO we will continue to follow the machine not the original CEO.  :rotfl:
Once he has ticketed a car we move in and place our card under the wiper and hopefully loads of people will contest all the way to PATAS.
And we are still hurting WCC in the coffers . :-ev-:

I felt the same way after offering helpful info to a victim of 2 CEO's in Shepheard St on Saturday.
By the way what is the collective name for a group of CEO's?
1   Mugging of CEO's
2   Slime
3   Plague
4   Pox
5   Rash
6   Slurry
7   Deceit
8   Scum
9   Patawayoyoyoyoyo....... the yo equate to the number of CEO's

I'm not sure really what does the Panel think?  :-

I like that Staps after all they took a picture of the car we could take a picture of them and post them on the web so the people can see its not a faceless regime they are up against. I suspect we will get pics of lots of backs CEO's Disappearing up the road with ID/shoulder number  turned over .

Bikers' Triumph
The NoToMob bikers who supported the UCG Oxford Street demo have been told by Kevin Goad, head of Parking Enforcement at Westminster Council, that CCTV camera cars will no longer be used at a number of sites across the borough because of potentially illegal signage.

The bikers' campaign started because WCC wanted to charge £1 a day for parking their bikes in town. Lots of people say "It's only a quid, why not just pay it?". The answer is that if you agree to it in principle, then you can't moan when it goes up to £1 an hour, or £5 an hour or who knows what. That is why the bikers have taken this to the High Court, and are now appealing the decision that went against them on that first occassion.  All done through donations from their runs, rallies and demonstrations.

The demo on Sunday which slowly made its way through Westminster for the best part of 2 hours with around 120 bikes is the second in a trilogy of rides, has hopefully raised more funds to help their cause, as well as getting plenty of support and raising awareness of what councils are getting away with without being challenged.

These guys are so well organised they have their own marshalls, their own ambulance at the back of the pack in case of any injuries to bikers or bystanders. Police weren't needed because they are aware of the peaceful nature of the protest.

The Wednesday morning and evening protests aren't getting much media attention, other than perhaps a "The bikers are at it again" mention on the London Traffic News.  However, they won't go away. They are determined to fight on and on.  More power to them.

That power could come from us, London's cab trade. What they are doing is not just for bikes.  Challenging road signage is something our ranks and highways people should be on top of instantly. We all need to be questioning all of our trade reps (regardless of which organisation) as to why they weren't actioning these issues.  So the bikers are helping us and every other motorist in London... FOR FREE.

We can help.
Support their demos.
Help their fighting fund.
Let them know if you see camera cars working the streets.

If a few bikes battling over £1 a day can have an effect, imagine what 25000 cab drivers could do. We have power, let's start to use it.

He's not the only one that thinks like that, I met Fitztaxi, who incidentally gave me some money for the fighting fund, he was saying how there was 25,000 of them and how they could help :aplude:

There's an awful lot of people that have come round to what we do, and now we've been told WCC are suspending enforcement at certain locations, people will further see that sometimes with a little stamina, Joe public, can make a difference.

All we need to do, as we have every intention, is keep up the good work

Have we had a press release from WCC stating parking signs are being looked into or are we taking Kev's word.

I notice we have not tweeted the news.

Are we spreading the word to the world beyond?

I know we cant do to much till they start changing signs in places, (admission of guilt)  :-ev-:

This is what I posted on NTBPT re replacing the signs at the junctions in question-:

Well to speed things up perhaps BE could tell his best bud Kev where he can lay his hands on 7 x  IQ cars that are sitting around doing Feck All plus 1 X Van to carry all the new signs and tins of white line paint and brushes they are going to need. And he can also let them know where they can find 16 NSL employees to do the work.
Because lets face it WCC have already paid for it all so its win win situation really .
Then BE's best bud Kev may want to put BE up for a big Community award for saving WCC all this money.
And while they have got the paint and brushes out may I sugest they change the wording on the $cars to say
W.C.C.  PARKING  ENFARCEMENT
