Maybe we are vigilantes then.
Thinking about Boyo's other definitions in the context of our $chunting activities, I am reminded of my first visit to Chatham bus lane.
We had been there for a few hours and about mid afternoon a riot van full of coppers pulled up and proceeded to unload its contents, those being five junior police officers and one very senior police officer who had the look of "I've pretty much seen it all" about him.
Despite other NTM members being closer, for some reason the senior officer sought out my company and led his subordinates in my direction. After we had exchanged pleasantries and I had established (as usual) that we weren't doing anything illegal, I asked him why him and he colleagues were there.
It transpires that Medway council had asked the coppers to go down and assist motorists with their compliance of the newly installed traffic scheme. That explained the look of irony I saw on his face when he was telling me this.
So after giving me the usual lecture about not diving out in front of cars (which I suspect was more for the benefit of his entourage than us) and after about 15 minutes of watching what we did and how we went about it, he led his mob back into the back of the van and off they went.
He didn't actually give his specific approval of our $chunting activities, nor did he condone what we do in any way (although one of his juniors did give us a covert thumbs up and mouthed "Keep it up" as they wandered off), but I can only surmise that this was a tacit approval of our actions, whereby he allowed members of the public to do his job, i.e. law enforcement, by proxy.
So it would appear that we really are a bunch of hairy arsed vigilantes (well most of the blokes are anyway), although we are certainly not rebels without a clue.
