The BPA, Excel & Independent Appeals Tribunal
« on: 22 April, 2012, 07:49:17 PM »
From Private Eye:

PARKING FEES
Excel excess
THE new body to oversee charges dished
out by parking firms risks being seen as
yet another toothless watchdog rnn by the
industry it is supposed to monitor. The
self-regulatory Independent Appeals Tribunal
will be rnn by the British Parking Association
(BPA), whose own track record representing
consumers is hardly ideal…………………………………………………………

What a complete waste of time that will be. Another good money making racket dreamt up by the BPA.

The poachers themselves running a tribunal. Whatever next.

The reason the BPA want to set this up (apart from the money they will make from it) is to tell Government that everything is being run properly.  They wrongly assume that this will result in legislation that enables private parking tickets to be enforced.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong on this one but the government are not completely averse to having their sweaty palms greased to get something like this pushed through. On 2nd March 2011, OPC and a director of the firm, Mr Douglas Harris, pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court to a total of 36 charges brought by Trading Standards relating to criminal behaviour in the manner in which they conducted their private parking business. Their electronic access to DVLA was disrupted for a month and on reinstatement they bombarded DVLA with, and received, 1120 keeper details which they had been stockpiling during the ban. All this with the blessing of DVLA and the BPA, even though they contravened the BPA code of practice. The councils and tribunals have, on the whole, been complete shitbags but their antics have been nothing compared to what private weasels and the BPA are capable of.

Appealing to the council is like playing chess with a pigeon. You might be a chess grand master but the pigeon will always knock all the pieces over, shit on the board and then strut around triumphantly.

OK perhaps a Government E-petition thingymabob is required to put the boot in before they get off the ground with it. Let the Bastards know the public are on to them.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Beer in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up,  totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a  ride!!"
