Box Junction in Welling DA16
« on: 13 October, 2016, 08:50:52 PM »
Hi,

Please could you advise if the below box junction in Welling at the junction of Parkview Road and Danson Lane is enforceable?

Aerial view: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4619452,0.1122391,71m/data=!3m1!1e3
Street view: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4619011,0.1124718,3a,75y,285.02h,75.37t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sB01jKDLWqnDK8RRk97shEg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

My limited understanding of the regulations and diagram 1044 would lead me to suggest that it definitely is not valid as it stops well short of the kerb???

This box junction has recently had CCTV installed by Bexley Council and they are using this as a cash cow against innocent motorists. The road is constantly congested and due to traffic pouring out of Danson Lane (side road), inevitably someone from this side road will pull out in front of traffic on Parkview Road and force them to stop in the box junction.

Look forward to any comments you guys might have on this!

Thank you very much for your help!!!

Steve

Can't see anything wrong with it myself, although others may disagree. It appears to comply with diagram 1044 in Ch. 5 of the Traffic Signs Manual (p77) and with Para 12.10 (p.78) which says "Half -boxes, in which only half of the junction is marked (diagram 1044) are appropriate at "T" junctions and other junctions where the traffic blocks back from one direction only. Half-boxes may be used only in the position shown in the position shown in the lower drawing in figure 12-1, i.e on the minor road side of the main carriageway.". I believe you may be thinking of a full box junction which is Diagram 1043.
