Average speed cams A13 - Goresbrook to Canning town ?
« on: 27 January, 2011, 04:35:19 PM »
Hi all,

Just been told from a police SOCO that the A13 average speed cams are going live tomorrow... not that any of us speed of course   ::)))

They are also going to be used to pick out people on the phone I am told from somewhere else, how true this part is I do not know... can not see personally how they can tell diff between someone on the phone or someone with hand on ear, resting their head on it if you know what I mean.

Lastly, from what I have seen they are all forward facing.... ?  anyone else confirm ?

Ride safe :)

Watch you'r speed Boys & Girls.

Following an agreement with the Metropolitan Police and local borough councils, and claimed as a 'UK first', a new average speed camera system began operating in East London on Monday.

A13 Speed camsThe cameras, 84 in all, will replace existing fixed and mobile cameras along a stretch of the A13 between Canning Town and the Goresbrook Interchange.

They are spread out along 37 entrance and exit points of the route.

A large portion of the route has had its speed limit increased in preparation for the cameras from 40mph to 50mph, a speed thought more appropriate to the three lane dual carriageway design of the A13. The speed limit across the Lodge Avenue and Canning Town flyovers will remain the same.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Beer in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up,  totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a  ride!!"

aren't I right in thinking these won't catch bikes due to forward facing cameras?

You are indeed mate :)

I emailed the company that installed them and was told that they are in forward facing config only at this time :)

From the emails, they said that the cameras can be spun around and reconfigured to read rear plates... but for the expense I doubt very much that they would do this.
