Traffic warden ‘disgusts’ Rainham residents by parking on double yellow lines

Havering Council has defended a traffic warden who angered residents by parking on double yellow lines near to a junction.

This picture, sent to the Recorder by Emma Thomas, shows a traffic and parking control car parked in Allen Road, Rainham on Sunday morning.

Traffic wardens are within their rights to park on double yellow lines while filming rule-breakers, but Emma accused the worker of double-standards.

She said: “Slightly disgusted with this warden, noticed her ticketing an elderly man who was carrying heavy soil to his car.

“Not only was she parked on double yellow lines herself, she did this very close to the corner of a junction making it incredibly dangerous. She could have caused an accident parked like that.”

Others also slammed the parking by the council worker when the picture was shared on Facebook.

But Cllr Robert Benham, cabinet member for environment explained parking enforcement workers are allowed to park on double yellow lines when filming others doing so.

“Sometimes there isn’t an alternative to this because of the offence being committed or the road layout,” he explained.

Narrow it down a bit for us please mate.

Was it blaming the lamp post in the parking bay debacle on contractor error when historic streetview images prove it had been that way for at least 5 years?

Or could you have been referring to Cllr Benham describing crossing a police cordon and cleaning up their crime scene for them as, ahem, 'a mistake'?

You might have equally been referring to Cllr Benham passing off his biblical incompetence as a 'teething problem'?

Or was it when he supposedly, ahem, 'parked something of his in Cllr Gregory's personal space' nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more?

One massive mistake I can positively Identify is when the good people of Havering voted for this monumental waste of space.
Appealing to the council is like playing chess with a pigeon. You might be a chess grand master but the pigeon will always knock all the pieces over, shit on the board and then strut around triumphantly.

To worry you even more, Havering is the latest London Borough to get permission to enforce moving traffic offences as civil contraventions.

Is the Councillors mistake calling it an offence when it is really a contravention?

Do you mean impersonating a police vehicle?

If so, I know of an even worse example.

Nope!

OK, I give up  <_>

This is the post I believe you were referring to?
"Well done for posting up the about average behaviour of Havering CEO's. I can tell you this is a CEO vehicle and I think that this is surely impersonating a police vehicle with it's markings and roof light cluster; they are blue and red/blue white as police have but are restricted to use only in parks and other council patrolled sites (allegedly)!"

This is a legacy of the Havering/Barking & Dagenham/Newham Parks Police who actually abused their powers so much they lost their warrant card carrying status a few years ago..."

The article quotes the councillor:

"But Cllr Robert Benham, cabinet member for environment explained parking enforcement workers are allowed to park on double yellow lines when filming others doing so".

It ain't a camera car so the operator wouldn't need to park on double yellows.
