Back in 2014 we went to Sutton to find out where the camera cars operated. It turned out that they only issued tickets for parking violations.

You may recall the famous run in we had with an NSL Ltd supervisor called Paul, (CEO badge number SU220), where he offered me out for a fight.
(see: http://notomob.co.uk/discussions/index.php?topic=2885.msg22364#msg22364 ).

Shortly afterwards we were contacted by the local press who took photographs of one of our number, and then included one in its report where it confirmed that the Sutton cars had issued nearly 50,000 parking tickets in the years 2010 to 2014. (see: http://www.suttonguardian.co.uk/news/11225295.Spy_cars_give_out_50_000_parking_tickets_in_Sutton_in_four_years/ )

On 1st April 2015, and as a result of the information supplied by NoToMob concerning councils abusing the way in which they deployed $camera cars, the government banned the use of cctv for issuing parking tickets, except for in very specific areas. These were areas where it was considered vital to ensure the safety and well being of citizens, and where there may be concerns over adverse effects on traffic flow.

However, it seems that Sutton council don't give a toss about providing a service that would ensure any such thing, as is demonstrated by the reply to an FoI request which asked for details concerning the council's deployment of its Mobile Enforcement Vehicles since 1 April 2015.

The reply states:

"Zero Mobile Enforcement Vehicles were deployed during this period."

It seems it really is...

It seems I got it wrong when I used the word "dumped". The FoI request reveals that the council still pay for one $car but it has been mothballed. So it's a double kick in the nuts for Sutton taxpayers.

Turns out they are paying NOT to be kept safe.

======================

The requester asked for clarification as follows:

I note that you say that there are zero street logs for the specified period and that zero mobile enforcement vehicles were deployed during that period.

However, I am unclear as to whether the council are still paying for the MEVs, even though there may be no daily logs for them. Please be kind enough to clarify the position for me.

The council replied:

Under the existing contract our enforcement contractor has a costed
vehicle, equipped for mobile CCTV enforcement, however this vehicle was
not deployed in a live enforcement capacity during the period specified.
