Taking a bike to Australia
« on: 20 December, 2011, 10:03:59 AM »
 :ot:
Fancy a trip to Australia with your bike?

The costs for NON permanent import is:
transport - By Boat (8 weeks): £517 = $775.50; by plane (3 weeks):£1200
import costs:
Handling: $500
AQUIS: $250
Cleaning - mandatory: $506
Total: $2031.50  (£1354)

Permanent import is above ($2031.50) plus
Tax: on a £5000 bike : $900
On road costs: Rego - not sure about $1000 plus ins ($500+)

My plan is to set up an import business for bikes:
That means I hope to reduce the costs, big time.
What I can not change is:
AQUIS: $250
Cleaning - mandatory: $506 - NB: transport to and from cleaning facility will be reduced by about $100.
NB2: I may be able to cut the AQUIS + Cleaning costs as well.

6 months in Australia with your own bike - brilliant!

Good luck with your new enterprise Java.

Cleaning of a new bike seems a bit expensive. They only to put it in a gas chamber. Why do the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service need to charge as well?

Merry Christmas mate.

I miss you guys as well; I have been busy with study - I am going to be a real estate agent - lots of money.
The weather has not been great here either - raining all the time.
@Kill Switch Thanks mate.  I will.
@Kiwi  Yea I ask the same questions - but I like my blue bike, not sure about gold.
The cost of a very cheap bike here is $3000 and it is low powered.
Though I did see a 20 year old BMW for $5000
